Consultations & Services

Book Marketing Consultation
Once upon a time, traditional royalty publishing houses were in charge of marketing their authors’ books. But as the publishing business has grown more competitive and publishing houses have tightened their belts, more and more marketing responsibilities fall on a writers’ shoulders. This consultation with Jolene provides ideas authors can use to market their books online, in print, and in person.
Query Letter Coaching
A good query letter is the first step in convincing a book, magazine, or blog editor to publish a writer’s work. Jolene guides writers through the steps required to craft a letter that persuades an editor to request your manuscript or article for consideration.
Platform Building Consultation
New writers who want to pitch book ideas to editors at traditional publishing houses need to be more than good writers. They also need an established and growing platform for marketing their books. Jolene coaches writers who purchase this service in a variety of online and print-based platform-building techniques.
Publication Path Consultation
Many writers believe the only path to publication is through a traditional publishing house. This consultation with Jolene acquaints writers with a variety of routes to publication and helps writers determine which one is best for them.
Book Proposal Coaching
Book proposal coaching guides authors through this complicated but necessary process for those seeking a traditional royalty publishing contract. Jolene teaches writers the components of either fiction or non-fiction book proposals and provides step-by-step instruction about how to pitch a book manuscript.

Troubleshooting
Whether a writer is stuck or want to move on through problems more quickly, Anne helps them find the way forward in a one to two hour consultation.
Plot Development
Anne helps writers work out plot kinks whether a story is in the planning stage, halfway done, a complete first draft, or a promising manuscript that keeps getting turned down by publishers. Anne provides feedback on a plot’s strengths and weaknesses. She gives ideas of paths a story could take, and teaches writers how to fix plot holes and improve pacing. Writers learn how to prune weaker story elements and focus a story line either in person or in a virtual, online session
Write to Publish Groups
Anne facilitates writers’ groups of three to four people. The groups focus on helping writers achieve their publishing goals thorough accountability, time-management, targeted lessons on writing techniques, editing based on a writer’s specific publishing goals, and group critique and support. Each writer can submit 4,000 words per month for Anne to edit, one formal lesson a month, one group critique a month, and a quarterly lesson from an industry insider.
